Sygnathidae is derived from Greek meaning 'fused jaws'. It is a family of fish that includes Sea Horses, Sea Dragons and Pipe Fish.

Many species shown on this print are endemic to Australia; the Weedy and Leafy Sea Dragons are only found in Southern Australia. The little 'Sydney Pygmy Pipe Horse' was only discovered in 1997 and is only found around the Sydney harbour. The Tiger Snout Seahorse is only found in Central Western Australia, and the Pot Bellied Sea Horse is only found on the East Coast and in New Zealand.
Other fish on the print include the Trumpet Fish, the Ornate Ghost Pipefish and the Robust Ghost Pipefish. The two small seahorses are called Bargibanti and Denise pygmy seahorses. They live their whole life in a sea fan and only grow up to the size of a grain of rice.
